Optimo Essential Mix Optimo sind JD Twitch und JG Wilkes aus Glasgow und ein wagemutiges DJ-Duo. Die halbstündigen Mixes, die sie über die Jahre auf ihrer Homepage veröffentlichten, zeugten von bizarren Sammlertum und grenzenlosen Musikgeschmack. Zudem famos gemixt. Als ich sie dann das erste Mal live auflegen sah, erwartete ich, dass das Vinyl nur so durch die Gegend fliegen würde. Das Gegenteil war der Fall, Wilkes manikürte sich die Fingernägel und Twitch hatte ständig the hands in the air. Das Geheimis war ein Mac Powerbook und die Ableton Live Software. Aber egal. Seit mittlerweile 9 Jahren veranstalten sie in Glasgow jeden Sonntag abend die Optimo Party. Die erste Stunde legen sie ganz wilden Stoff auf (Soundtracks, Cluster etc.), dann spielt eine Band und danach übernehmen Twitch und Wilkes. Und am Montag gehen 100 Glasgower nicht zur Arbeit. Und hier etwas Hoffnung für jeden Clubmacher/DJ-Abend-Veranstalter: “There was no pressure - nobody comes out on a Sunday - so we figured if we could get even 50 people, it'd be great." In fact, they consistently drew as many as 100 for about 18 months, until one night, inexplicably, Optimo's turnout tripled. "We thought it was a crazy one-off, and then the next week we got 400, then 500, and it's been like that ever since," Twitch says. "It was as if people suddenly got it." Also: durchhalten.
